Groom And Style Expands To Provide Broader Lifestyle Recommendations With All New Content and Guides

0
0
Groom And Style is a website that has specialized in male grooming products, and has now created a huge expansion into a broad range of lifestyle products, replete with a new website architecture.

Groom and Style first started life as a blog sharing experiences from multiple perspectives on men’s grooming products. It quickly became very popular because of its variety of distinct voices, and this popularity exploded when they started creating formal product reviews. After the success of Reviews on Groom And Style, the website has gone through massive renovation and is now catering to more niches than ever before.

The new sections on the website include fitness, style, home and garden, hair and beauty, and more. Despite the massive expansion, the tone, perspective and attitude of the site has not changed, offering incisive and no-nonsense advice on a huge range of items, making recommendations and even condemning products that fail to achieve what they should.

The new website architecture makes this mass expansion of content easily comprehensible, with dedicated category sections which can be selected to display only relevant content, as well as a ‘latest posts’ round up on the front page to enable people to keep abreast of the latest releases. The website has become more than a blog now, and aims to be a thriving community.

A spokesperson for GroomNStyle explained, “In truth the posts we make on our site are only half the story, and it’s in the comments sections where things really get interesting. We encourage debate, dissent and open discussion about the products and we understand that while our view comes from one of experience and insight, it’s not immutable. The point of our site is to allow people to find great products, and if someone wants to go to bat for something they think is great, we’re happy to see them do that. All our readers, and commenters, and even writers, make up their own minds, and that’s why the site is so unique.”

The Man in the Mirror: The Truth About You

0
0
Shame is a belief about one’s self. Guilt, on the other hand, is a belief about one’s actions based upon one’s sense of right and wrong. Guilt says: “I did something bad.” Shame says: “I am bad.”
In our addiction and trauma treatment program for men, we have found the “Man in the Mirror” concept helpful in overcoming negative self-talk that originates in a shame-based core belief of one’s self. Recovering from addiction, whether a substance or a process, like sex, eating and gambling, requires a change in how the subconscious mind “talks” to the addict.

When an addict looks in a mirror, he sees not only the physical image; he also senses an emotional image that is an illusion of one’s true, authentic Self. By uncovering the negative self-talk, through awareness and identification, one is able to see the harmful effects of the negative thought, which is one’s belief about one’s self at the subconscious level.

Success in treating addiction requires success in becoming aware of, identification of, and exposing the negative core self-beliefs and replacing them with statements of Truth and Value that liberates one from the bondage of shame. Only then, may the addict begin to see a different person in the mirror, one that speaks truth from an epicenter of love.

Core Shame

Shame is a belief about one’s self. Guilt, on the other hand, is a belief about one’s actions based upon one’s sense of right and wrong. Guilt says: “I did something bad.” Shame says: “I am bad.”

Core shame comes from early childhood in how one perceives one’s self from those around him. Most core shame comes from the family where parents and/or siblings inflict shameful statements upon the individual to the extent that he actually believes what is being said to him about who he is.

Shame statements include:

• “You’re stupid!”

• “Don’t do that! Don’t you know better than to do that! What’s wrong with you?”

• “You’re just like your father!” (Or some other individual with whom you are being compared to in an effort to shame you.)

• “You won’t amount to anything!”

• “You’re a disgrace!”

Humiliation by parents or an older sibling, especially done in front of non-family members, is another source of shame. So is disapproval. Being humiliated hurts deeply and causes one to actually feel that they are the emotion rather than simply experience the emotion for a brief period.

For example: Johnny spills grape juice on the white linen tablecloth during the family’s Thanksgiving meal and his mother reacts in rage and screams at him: “Johnny! Look at what you’ve done! You’ve ruined my beautiful tablecloth! What’s wrong with you! Are you an idiot! Go to your room! You don’t deserve to be at this table with uncle Joe and aunt Mary! Shame on you!”

As a three year old who doesn’t understand the ego and the frailties and shortcomings of others, especially his mother, Johnny leaves the table embarrassed, telling himself how stupid he is and how he is responsible for ruining the tablecloth – and – more absurd – how bad he feels for making his mother so mad at him! He now believes:

• He is a bad person for making his mother get angry at him.

• He is a bad person for ruining the tablecloth.

• He is stupid for spilling his grape juice.

Johnny has core shame, meaning; who he believes he is, is grounded deeply in shame. As he continues to grow and develop in his home, he continues to hear shaming statements from his mother and father and an older sibling. When he enters public school he hears praise from a teacher, but is unable to accept it as truth because his truth tells him he does not deserve praise.

Later in life, Johnny acts out from a shame based core belief that he is stupid and bad. The acting out results in disciplinary action that further confirms how bad a person he is. At the age of 14 Johnny takes a drink of whisky and discovers a whole new world! For the first time in his life he feels “okay” and “normal.” By the time he is 19 Johnny is an alcoholic. By age 32 he has lost four jobs and has a marriage that is in the process of divorce – all due to his drinking, which is now around the clock, every day.

By age 48 Johnny has been through four treatment facilities only to relapse shortly after completing each program. The family wonders why he can’t stay sober. Johnny’s core problem can be discovered through messages from the man-in-the-mirror.

The Man in the Mirror

When Johnny looks at himself in the mirror, he is filled with disgust and self-hatred. He cannot stand to see the reflection. He curses it. He is so disgusted he may even hit the mirror with his fist. What is it that he sees? What is it that he hears?

He see’s a bad man, a stupid man, a man that has failed, a man that shouldn’t even be alive. He is repulsed and loathes the image to the degree that he feels sick in his stomach.

• “You’re a real shit head!”

• “Who the hell do you think you are?!”

• “What’s wrong with you?”

• “Can’t you do anything right?”

Unable to cope with the “reality” of who he is, he walks away and gets drunk. Even though he’s been through four 30-day treatment programs and knows better, he drinks anyway. He may have learned a lot in treatment, but he never addressed the man in the mirror. He never addressed the core shame wherein his thoughts and ideas originate. And it is those toxic thoughts and ideas that drive his addictive behavior that always result in getting drunk.

How to Change

The shameful messages are repeated over and over during the early childhood years, and the brain creates synapses that, over time, become sheathed in myelin and become seemingly indestructible. Subconscious reactions, ideas, thoughts are in autopilot mode and the addict is incapable of acting out and; therefore, feels hopeless in ever attaining lasting sobriety. What is required is the establishment of new synapses that become myelinated through repetition.

• First, become aware of the negative thoughts. It is essential that one not only admit that their truth is built on a foundation of shame, but that they be aware of the actual self-talk statements going on in the mind.

1. Stand in front of a mirror for a few minutes and be aware of the negative self-talk statements that run through your mind.

2. Then write down the statements you identified.

• Next, come up with a “truth-statement” that negates the negative statement. For instance: “I am a bad person…” is replaced with: “I am a divine creation of a divine Creator…”

• The next time the old, negative statement is heard in your mind, stop immediately and say: “CANCEL!” Then replace the old thought with the new truth statement from step 4. Continue to do this throughout the day, but don’t be too harsh. If you miss one here and there, it’s okay. It takes practice.

• At night, when falling asleep, repeat your truth statement over and over again until you fall asleep.

As you go about your day, you might also try this. Sort your thoughts into “helpful” and “non-helpful” categories. This is a good way to become aware of your negative, shame-based thoughts. It is also a way to notice the increase in good, helpful thoughts over time. Eventually the old thoughts will become almost non-existent and the new ones will become automatic.

Over time, you will be aware of the negative messaging going on in your head and you should notice an increase of positive, truth statements. Eventually the negative messages will disappear and become an exception, while the truth statements become the norm.

How Does this Help with Addiction?

The addictive mindset is one embedded in shame from one’s childhood. It results in negative messaging and a feeling of not being “right” or “okay.” The addict finds either a substance or a process, such as sex, food, gambling, that changes how he feels from a “not-being-okay” feeling to a “I am okay!” sensation. Unfortunately the change in mood is short-lived and results in an increase in shame, especially when the addiction has consequences that impact the addict’s family, career, social life and/or of a legal nature.

By eliminating shame based negative self-talk, one eliminates the bad feelings associated with those thoughts. This leads to an improved mental, emotional and spiritual sense of well-being and therefore there is no need for self-medication from the mood-altering addiction.

Summary

Addiction is a cycle of thought and behavior that most often is based in shame. The quick fix of addiction brings temporary relief to the negative, self-debasing and toxic shame oriented thoughts about oneself; however, there is a paradox here: An increase in shame occurs post-acting out on the addiction.

By identifying early childhood shame and its associated negative, false statements about one’s self, the addict can replace those old shame-based thoughts with new, positive, truth statements that literally change how the addict perceives himself and eliminates the need for self-medication. This may appear as an over-simplification of a complex problem, but we have seen remarkable results in changed thinking and changed behavior in our treatment program for men from practicing the four step process above.

The Right Thing To Do Has No Resistance

0
0
Doing the right thing shouldn’t be difficult.
When you want something or when you need to make an important decision, the path of least resistance is generally the right direction or the correct decision. You see, resistance indicates one is pushing against the natural forces of the universe and when that happens, you should stop what you are doing immediately and reconsider what you are doing.

Resistance and the Law of Abundance

The law of abundance is one of the primary laws in our universe. In fact, one might say that ours is an abundant universe; therefore, scarcity is a fabrication. Creation comes from a place of abundance and knows nothing except to create abundantly. When someone is in the creative process and follows the natural flow of our abundant universe, one succeeds in growing in an abundant manner. There is no resistance to the natural order of things because the power of the universe is greater than any power to resist it. When resistance is felt, it is because the idea that lead to the initiation of action is an idea created outside the natural flow of the universe.

Our universe is one of expansion. Since the Big Bang expansion has occurred. Galaxies have formed; stars, planets and other celestial objects have all been created due to the expansion of our universe. So the fundamental creative power of the universe manifests itself by expansion. Expansion and abundance go hand-in-hand when it comes to creation.

The idea of expansion and abundance is foreign to many people. They have not consciously experienced a life of abundance because their overarching belief system is established in fear. Such people are motivated by fear – the fear of losing money, a job, a relationship, material losses, losing one’s health – everything in their life is based upon unconscious and conscious fear. For these individuals, making decisions in life often results in something other than what they had in mind; usually something maleficent.

Resistance is nature’s way of signaling us to stop and back up and reconsider what we are doing. It is a red flag that is there for a reason. When ignored, seemingly bad things happen. When heeded, seemingly good things happen. I say “seemingly” because things are “good” or “bad” by one’s subjective experience.

When resistance is sensed, one should stop their thought, their action, their decision and review other options. The right thing, the right choice does not have resistance. In fact, when it is right, the universe works for us to bring a thing to us. The end result is usually something better, greater, more abundant and we have an expansive experience. We have a better outcome because the expansive and abundant creative power of the universe is harnessed for our good.

So What do I do?

Let’s say you are about to make a change in your career. You no longer want to do what you’ve been doing, you feel burned out and want a change. When you start to consider making a change you get confused or overwhelmed or experience resistance in some other form. It’s time to pull back and reconsider. Perhaps what you need is not a change in career, but a change within.

Burnout is caused by many different things, so perhaps you should find out why you are experiencing burnout and correct that before you make a job or career change. If your thinking or behavior is causing the burnout, then changing to a new job or a new career is not going to change the cause, it only changes the circumstances. Once the cause of burnout is known, you might resume a job or career change, or you may elect to stay in your current position. The same type of reconsideration might be applied to feeling like a relationship has come to an end.

Summary

When making a decision or taking a new direction in your life, be aware of resistance. It is the universe’s way of sending up a red flag. When this happens, retreat and reconsider the problem, or decision, and examine other options. The right thing occurs without resistance and the end result is more gratifying and adds value and meaning to your life.

Emotional Health – Letting Go of Training Wheels

0
0
Emotional health implies one is – healthy! But what does it look like and how does it feel?
Most children learn to ride a bicycle using training wheels until they are confident enough to attempt riding without them. Having raised several children of my own, I’ve held on to the back seat many times only to let go on “2” (in the “1-2-3” count) and watch them ride on only two wheels.

Emotionally, many adults use emotional training wheels (defense mechanisms) to make it through life. It may be in their relationships, career or in some other aspect of their lives. They simply have not grown through a particular emotional stage and therefore hang on to supports that they no longer need. Such individuals do not know the freedom that comes from emotional health.

Emotional Health

Emotional health is highly subjective. What is considered “normal” to some might be way off the charts to others. Perhaps the best way to know one’s emotional health is to examine where one is emotionally unhealthy; in other words, where one hurts, emotionally speaking.

When men arrive at my office, rather than ask them “What’s wrong?”, which they often respond to nebulously; I say: “Tell me about your emotional pain.”Not too many men are able to articulate an answer sufficient enough to make a diagnosis, but it gets the conversation started.

What’s hurting you emotionally is most likely where you are out of balance and therefore where you are emotionally unhealthy. For instance; if you feel sad about your marriage or a relationship with someone you love, there’s a reason for the sadness. You may or may not be aware of the cause of the sadness, you simply know you are sad. Another example: You may be financially successful but feel like it’s not enough, or you feel hollow inside despite your sizable net worth. The negative emotions you feel indicate an emotionally unhealthy part of who you are, but again, you may or may not know why or how you came to feel that way.

The point is that it’s easier to identify a negative emotional state rather than a positive one. Perhaps it’s because we spend so much of our lives in emotional pain that we really don’t know what it’s like to have emotional health. We settle for unhappiness and a little misery here and there, hoping that circumstances will change, or, that we will be happy in the next life, or stage of being.

What prevents someone from enjoying emotional health? Are they stuck in an emotional condition that’s imprisoned them since childhood? Was there a traumatic event that occurred in adolescence that they never quite got over? (Trauma can be physical, emotional and/or spiritual.) Some may have been abused as children, physically, sexually and/or emotionally, and continue to be in abusive relationships as adults. Some may have experienced the loss of a parent early in life either due to death, divorce or otherwise. Some may have been in or witnessed a traumatic event like an automobile accident, battlefield trauma or natural catastrophe (hurricane, earthquake, etc.) When these types of trauma occur, the traumatized victim defends himself or herself in a way to survive the event physically, emotionally and spiritually. The method of defense varies, but the defense mechanism often remains in place long after the event that spawned it. It’s comparable to keeping training wheels on a bicycle years after one is fully capable of riding on just two wheels.

What To Do

Sometimes sticking to the familiar feels safer than the perceived risk something new and unknown, whether for better or worse. If one wants to move beyond their painful emotional place, one needs to take action. While it is not necessary to have professional help, it is certainly recommended and worth the time and money, otherwise the individual could find themselves in another emotional trap.

Here are some suggestions:

1. Find a licensed therapist that specializes in an area of mental health that you feel is appropriate for you. (Marriage and family, trauma, addiction, etc.) You might ask friends and family members or your primary therapist or clergy for a referral. You might also visit websites like psychologytoday.com or your state department of health, and use their directory of therapists.

2. Self-help books are useful, but beware; some are less useful than others.

3. There may be support groups in your area that you may attend:

  • Divorce, grief, trauma groups.
  • Alcoholics Anonymous, or other 12-Step support groups for:
    ○ Eating disorders
    ○ Sex addiction
    ○ Gambling
    ○ Smoking
  • Al-Anon for family members of an alcoholic.
  • Co-dependents Anonymous.
  • Church sponsored support groups.
  • Anger management groups.

4. Practicing mindfulness and meditation are particularly helpful in personal growth and moving out of a stuck situation.

5. Find something new to do. Doing something different physically helps you do something different mentally and emotionally:

  • Exercise
  • Yoga
  • Gardening
  • Hiking
  • Kayaking
  • Bicycling

Summary

Life presents challenges to all, and for some the challenges are quite harmful mentally and physically. The defense mechanisms used for survival may have served their purpose at the time, but when the individual continues to use these defenses later in life, they continue to survive rather than thrive. The solution(s) requires that the individual becomes willing to take action for change and then consistently takes action until they are free of their emotional bondage. Like a child who outgrows their training wheels, adults can outgrow their defense mechanisms and find emotional health and therefore freedom.

Cars-Under20000.com is helping people get their dream car for the price of a used Sedan with a new editorial, which explains which luxury vehicles are now available for under $20k.

Buying a vehicle is essential for families and workers who need to commute daily. Unfortunately many new vehicles come with a premium price tag many are unwilling to pay, especially as new cars depreciate so rapidly. As such, many individuals are seeking the best car they can get for the budget, whether used or new. Cars Under 20,000 is an invaluable resource for those people, enabling people to find information on the best cars for their budget, whether 20,000, 10,000 or even used cars under 5000.

Cars Under 20,000 has just published a guide to no less than eight luxury cars under $20k. The editorial has some impressive specimens to present, including the BMW Z4, 2010 Ford Mustang, 2001 Porsche Boxster and more. All these cars, while not new, are still outstanding rides with premium features and more power than the roads can handle.

The article gives a full and detailed explanation of the features of each car in the list, together with the reason for their apparently ‘budget’ status. The article is one designed to help fuel the imaginations of drivers who may be shopping for a new car, and might find their money better spent on a more exciting alternative than they had expected.

A spokesperson for Cars Under 20,000 explained, “Cars Under 20,000 is pleased to be able to show people that for as little as $6,500 they are able to get hold of a vehicle that just a few years ago would have cost them a fortune, and an in a few more years time could likely become a classic, and actually begin to appreciate if well taken care of. In the meantime, these cars offer an amazing experience for less than many drivers realize.”

About Cars Under 20,000:

Cars Under 20,000 is an online resource center dedicated to helping Americans find used cars available for under twenty thousand dollars, as well as cars under ten thousand dollars. The site helps people identify what car will give them the best value for money according to their requirements, and help them secure a vehicle for less than they might expect.

How Addressing the Psychological Issues in Men Can Help Them Recover Faster From Alcohol Addiction

0
0
People with anxiety may look normal but there’s a list of several small signs that reveal a lot about them and would no doubt be abnormal and alarming.

Alcohol addicts are believed to be traveling alone on a long route to death. Their dependency on the drug tears them apart from almost everyone. There would be small percentage of addicts who themselves want to get rid of their habit of unlimited drinking while the majority of people with alcoholic addiction take their habit as a way of freeing themselves from the anxieties of life.  In certain cases, a family or friend has to take step to help their pal get back to a normal and clean existence.

Addiction never comes by itself. There are always some unpleasant circumstances in the life of an addict that push them toward adapting a habit they feel can help them coming out of the depression or a particular state of fear.

The records reveal that the majority of addiction patients suffer from anxiety, panic attacks, and emotional effects.  Unfortunately, these mental disorders causing several physical effects are hardly taken into consideration while a disease is being cured.  Since treating addiction is never that easy, it requires the proper diagnoses, moreover finding out the causes for an addict going towards the drug need to be investigated as well.

People with anxiety may look normal but there’s a list of several small signs that reveal a lot about them and would no doubt be abnormal and alarming. These signs include sweaty palms, depression about social circumstances, upset sleep cycle, nail-biting, and foot tapping. People with depression feel a lot of anger and anxiety, making every day of their lives difficult.

Accordingly it’s vital to address the psychological issues in order to set a treatment for the addict. Addiction caused by psychological disorder is treated with behavioral therapy and personal counseling while cognitive behavioral therapy is also taken into consideration as an important element of recovery process that helps the patient recognize, keep themselves away from, and tackle the state in which they are most likely to consume alcohol. Besides that, a motivational interview with patients is often useful to remind them of their value as a way of avoiding alcohol. Having a crucial demand of terminating an addict’s fears and anxiety with love and care, one has to showcase patience and positive behavior during the treatment process.

Magic Mist Electronic Cigarettes Claims To Lead The Pack When It Comes To Variety

0
0
There are many different kinds of E-cigs; A person may get a totally different experience in terms of taste/flavor/vapor from one E-cig to another.

Chicago, Illinois – September 22, 2015 – E-Cigs, aka Electronic Cigarettes, are a relatively new phenomenon. It used to be a horrendous experience to try to quit smoking for most people, and only few could succeed. All that changed with the invention of electronic cigarettes. People can now experience smoking without smoking. It is called “Vaping”, where a vapor is inhaled without all the harmful chemicals found in real cigarettes. In fact, there are over 1000 chemicals in a regular cigarette. Over 300 chemicals are known to be very harmful, several are poisonous. E-cig cartridges and e-liquids are available in different Nicotine strengths, which is the key to quit smoking the easy way.

Along came Magic Mist and they have shaken-up the E-cig industry. They have become the dominant force and have made their competition very anxious. Magic Mist really makes it obvious that all E-cigs are not the same. When people start vaping they normally buy an E-Cig kit which could vary from $10 to $50 or even more. However, they may not like the flavor or taste of that E-cig and might conclude that E-cigs are not for them. People often mistakenly think that all E-cigs are the same. And to even try a different E-cig, they think that they will have to buy a whole new E-cig kit again. Magic Mist solved this problem very conveniently and cheaply for people. Since Magic Mist carries compatible products for over 70 E-cig brands, people who had not enjoyed other brands of electronic cigs have had great success with this line. Without investing in a totally new kit, people can buy just 1 pack of Magic Mist Compatible cartridges for their E-cigs and get a totally different experience in terms of taste/flavor/vapor. The introduction of different flavors has made a big difference in the success of “vaping” products. Further, availability of different nicotine strengths has helped even heavy cigarette smokers to dramatically cut down their consumption by tapering off the nicotine strength until they are not using any at all.

Most cigarette smokers realize that they have a habit that could be fatal, but they feel powerless to make an attempt to quit. They should be encouraged to try E-cigs, it is a life changing experience. As these nicotine addicts reduce their nicotine intake, their body begins to rebuild itself. Nicotine cartridges are available from 24mg to 0mg. The lungs are capable of cellular regeneration, and this means fresh oxygenated air will be able to benefit their body. Their red blood cells multiply as they carry freshly oxygenated blood to all parts of the body, this is the tissue cleansing effect that makes all the difference in the world.

Breaking the Cycle Consulting Announces New Website for Families Suffering with Child to Parent Violence

0
0

ORLANDO, FL – 22 Sep, 2015 – Breaking the Cycle Consulting, Inc. announces the launch of a new, interactive website that will lead efforts to break the cycle of child to parent violence.

“Parental abuse or child to parent abuse and violence is a silent yet common and complex family problem that affects 1 out 5 families. I was shocked, as a therapist, to see this number and the lack of expertise and services available for this form of domestic violence,” says Laurie Reid, Florida-licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, Founder and President of Breaking the Cycle Consulting, Inc.

Breaking the Cycle does not provide traditional therapy. Reid specifically designed this program to target and remedy child to parent violence. This program includes scripts, helpful tips, videos, a complete breaking the cycle program, and one-on-one skype sessions with a BTC coach. This online program is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week from the comfort of your own home.

Reid says, “I believe it is important to include all members of the family, when breaking the cycle. There is less pressure and more inclusion of all family members in our online environment because it is available at each family’s own pace and in the privacy of their own home.”

The concept for Breaking the Cycle is very personal to Reid. She grew up with an emotionally and verbally abusive sister, witnessing first-hand what child to parent violence was like. During her teen years, she began to mimic her sister’s behavior.

“I was verbally abusive to my mother because I felt like she was weak. I resented the fact that she did not protect us from my sister’s violence when we were younger,” she says.

After having to perform community service for shoplifting and then serving time in the Navy, Reid became a licensed therapist. The first therapy job she had was working with children and it evolved into her spending significant time counseling adolescents. Through her extensive 18 years of experience, she was able to create the curriculum for this program.

Breaking the Cycle emphasizes the need for physical, psychological, and emotional safety for both the parent and child. They have served more than 600 families, collaborated with two universities for research into child to parent aggression and violence, and presented at numerous national and state level conferences on the subject. Now, they are excited to bring this new, online format to help start a movement that focuses on breaking the cycle of child to parent violence once and for all.

Recovery and Personal Strength

0
0
An individuals personal strength has the ability to conquer anything.
Every individual has a unique collection of biological and emotional predispositions, and learned experiences.

The approach and response of a person to stimuli of everyday life can be as individual as our unique fingerprints.  When a person is struggling with alcohol or drug abuse or any form of addiction, this collection of predispositions and learned experiences can work against the addict, and getting those same predispositions to provide the foundation for a sober life can be very complicated. Addiction does not develop overnight, just as recovery does not happen on its own.  The best recovery and substance abuse treatment programs get to really know the individual in treatment, creating a personalized recovery program that builds on the person’s greatest strengths and helps create buffers against their weaknesses.

Recovery is a difficult and ongoing process which most addicts acknowledge they could not get to or through on their own.  Reaching the depths of addiction is predicated on isolation, shame, guilt and often, a lack of self-worth.  Recovering from addiction, on the other hand, means that the person must integrate more closely with a community of people while openly addressing their own behaviors and actions which have caused such negative feelings, all while building self-esteem.  This kind of extended devotion to personal health and maintenance of a sober lifestyle uses a lot of effort, which is why a recovery treatment facility that creates an environment that is safe and judgement free for those struggling with addiction to express their biggest concerns about their recovery is crucial.  Forming relationships that are non-judgmental, having access to resources like trained, experienced psychologists and treatment professionals, and having a structure in which it is relatively easy to maintain sobriety are all benefits to the client, who can then focus on their own internal processes on their recovery.

After treatment is over, when the patient is ready to return to “real life”, it is at this point “the hard work” begins.  The danger of isolation and negative feelings coupled with the difficulties and stresses of a very unstructured and high-pressure modern life, can be dangerous for those struggling to maintain their sobriety. A great recovery and treatment program knows this, and makes sure that graduates from the program can access enough internal strength and spiritual resources to be their own generator of positive energy in times of distress to sustain their commitment to recovery.

What is a Spiritual Recovery Program?

0
0
A spiritually attentive recovery program does not necessarily have to be based on a specific religion or philosophy.
When a patient enters a recovery treatment program for drug or alcohol abuse, they come in with a basket of issues that range from physical and emotional, to mental difficulties, and the treatment program has to address all of those issues in order to gain recovery.

A great addiction treatment program or facility will offer the detox program that will help the patient’s body withstand the struggles of addiction, the emotional therapeutic resources to gather strength and resilience to sustain recovery, as well as the analytical skills that give the mind better control over the addict’s actions and responses to stressful behaviors. In addition, to the resources provided by the facility or program, the patients themselves have to bring a set of resources as well.

Most of the time, the patient will not recognize the assets they have in their bag of tricks.  The disease of addiction can strip a person of their ability to self-reflect and analyze their behavior, and often leaves a person without a real conscious understanding of the effects of their behavior. The job of a talented professional recovery staff is to bring out the patient’s resources in a way that makes them useful and accessible, and to teach tools that will allow the patient to better make use of those resources once the recovery treatment program ends.  One of the skills that a strong recovery program will emphasize is the inherent spiritual energy and stability of each and every person experiencing addiction.

A spiritually attentive recovery program does not necessarily have to be based on a specific religion or philosophy.  Although there are programs which are based on religious perceptions and dogma, some professionals feel that, while the structure a religious recovery offers can be incredibly helpful to the addict, the underlying guilt and shame that an addict invariably experiences during recovery can be made worse by a religiously focused platform.  The spirituality, worth and capability of every human can be a focus of a recovery program which does not require adherence to any special religious behavior or alliance with a religious institution.

One of the main underlying emotional experiences that addicts report is a feeling of insecurity and disconnectedness. The anxiety of addiction, added to feelings of shame and isolation, can be overwhelming and help to maintain the addiction’s hold on the individual.  A spiritually based drug and alcohol abuse treatment program will help the addict to leverage their internal, intrinsic self-worth that everyone is entitled to, and to restore a sense of connectedness to every person on the planet.  The community feeling and sense of mutual support that addicts find in recovery programs which emphasize personal spirituality is a significant help in life after they leave recovery treatment. Faith is a component of a universal spiritual experience that transcends any religious institution or tradition.  The treatment program which helps a person recover while also reconnecting to their own joy, happiness and center is one which is doing more than simply restoring sobriety.

Effectiveness of Outpatient Programs in Treating Drug Addiction

0
0
Treatment of substance dependence and related problems under outpatient programs have proven successful in achieving full recovery of the drug addicts.
Outpatient programs are usually provided by psychiatric health facilities, specialized facilities for treating drug addiction, and/or private facilities.

In this program, the patient has the freedom of movement to and from the doctor’s appointments by visiting the physician from their homes on a daily basis excluding weekends. A lot of people prefer this kind of treatment due to its anonymity, ease of access, lower costs and less disruptions to the day to day activities or functioning of the individual. To enhance effectiveness in treating drug addiction, the outpatient treatment program employs the following tactics:

Pharmacological treatment: this is the use of medication to help ease the physical reactions as a result of withdrawal. The physician prescribes medicine to help ease pain and other complications.

Individual therapy: personal counseling is given to individuals to help them change their behavior and attitude. It is essential in addressing the needs of a specific individual.

Mental health treatment: drug abuse and addiction is often accompanied by other mental and physical illnesses such as mental disorders. The outpatient treatment program is equipped to diagnose such illnesses and offer medication to treat such disorders.

Relapse prevention: outpatient programs equip the individual patients with necessary skills that may help them avoid recurrence of drug misuse practices. They encourage individuals to remain sober and observe abstinence.

Offer significant life skills: individuals undergoing rehabilitation at an outpatient program attend special classes and lessons that equip them with necessary skills to cope with stressful circumstances and situations that may lure them into drug use. These skills may also help save lives.

Re-socialization skills: individuals are taught how to positively adapt to the drug free society. They are taught how to make and maintain new friendships. They are also taught how to communicate effectively with other members of the society. Re-socialization skills basically helps individuals have a smooth reintroduction into the society.

Group therapy: behavioral treatment may be offered to a group of patients all who are undergoing treatment for drug addiction. These groups may be contemporary or specific to address specific needs such as women groups to address the special needs of women addicts. The group may help create mutual relations that would lead to problem sharing and accelerate recovery.

As seen, outpatient programs are effective in achieving full recovery. However, in cases of extreme addictions inpatient program or referral to sober living houses is always recommended.

Alcohol, Drugs, and My Child

0
0
Parents face difficult challenges when they are seeking recovery and having to parent.
Eighty-three percent of teens will have given into peer pressure and used some type of mood altering substance before they graduate from high school according to the National Institute on Drug Abuse.

The challenges parents are facing have never been greater and the resources to help are very few.  Parents must somehow try to predict if their child’s use is simply a phase or if they will fall into that 15 to 20% of the population that is destined to experience ever-increasing problems.  Likewise, teens are confronted with peers for whom “partying”, is the norm. While the indicators for predicting addiction are inexact, there are certain factors that can give parents a far greater ability of anticipating how alcohol or drugs may affect their child’s future. Below are a few important questions to ask:

Is there a significant family history of alcohol or drug abuse in the natural family?  The closer the history of abuse to the parents (especially the same sex parent) the greater the probability.  Addiction clearly has some basis in family DNA and genetics. Have alcohol or other drugs caused problems for family members on either parent’s side?

Has your teen had any past negative consequences related to substance use with a subsequent return to the use again despite parental discipline and or the pain of those consequences?  Any return to a behavior, after experiencing pain, is an abnormal response and indicates how important the teen’s substance use has become to him or her.  The types of problems include:  school, health, legal, relationship, job or financial and constitute the clearest and most consistent indicator of future problems.  How much or how often your child has used alcohol or drugs, is much less important, than what happens when they do use. Most importantly – do they go back again?

Although this is rarely shared with a parent: does your teen express clearly the emotional benefits of their use of any psychoactive substance?   In other words, do they tell you how much they like drinking or doing drugs?

If a parent has concerns after answering these three questions, it is imperative to assess your situation, while also, uniting in a strategy for the future.  Doing nothing will often create a division between the parents allowing the teen’s problems to worsen; as the parents become increasingly polarized.  Do my spouse and I fight over the best way to respond? We are available to help parents navigate this very emotional time. Hill Alcohol and Drug Treatment has had tremendous success utilizing wilderness programs to help kids break out of this destructive cycle.

We have many teens and parents who have experienced this life changing treatment and are willing to share their stories of change and recovery with you. We also have an adolescent family night geared to help the entire family in the recovery process. Know that you did not cause your Child’s addiction. You simply are not that powerful!!

Will My Insurance Pay for Drug Detox?

0

Will My Insurance Pay for Drug Detox?

In the U.S. an estimated 20 million people use illicit drugs and another 48 million use prescription drugs recreationally. If you add to that the number of people who take prescription drugs for valid medical purposes; nearly a third of the population are engaged in some type of drug use. If you are one of the 100 million people that take drugs, at some point you may have to ask, “Will my insurance pay for drug detox?”

Insurance and the Law

If you are enrolled in healthcare and you are in need of drug treatment, there is some good news for you. In 2008 the Mental Health Parity and Addiction Equity Act (MHPAEA) became effective followed by the Affordable Care Act in 2010 which put in place healthcare allowances that included individuals struggling with substance use disorders According to the healthcare law substance use disorders is included in the “ten elements of essential health benefits.” (whitehouse.gov)

Furthermore, the law states that insurance companies have to provide the same percentage of coverage for substance use disorders that they pay for other medical illnesses. This means that yes, your insurance will pay for drug detox.

How Much Will Insurance Pay?

Since insurance providers set the amount they allow for medical illnesses, the best way to know for certain how much your provider will pay is to contact them directly. Most likely the insurance provider will have a limit and depending on the total cost of the drug detox treatment that you choose; it could pay a sizable portion.

Another thing to consider is that drug detox and drug rehab is two different things. Whereas drug rehab may last from 28 days to 6 weeks or longer; drug detox treatment will last from seven to ten day or slightly longer, depending on the type of substance use.

The cost of drug detox treatment could be as little as a few hundred dollars up to many thousands, depending on the type of facility: state funded/operated, an outpatient clinic or a private detox center. Keep in mind that the more luxurious the facility the more it is going to cost. There are private drug detox facilities available that will offer a certain amount of amenities and won’t cost $30,000 per day.

What to do if there is a Balance

Once you determine how much the insurance will pay and you find the drug detox facility that is right for you, don’t give up if you discover there is a portion of the bill that you will be responsible for… you have options.

Drug detox facilities usually work with a finance company that will carry the balance for up to a year which will allow you to spread the payment out over several months. Another consideration is that many detox centers offer scholarships for low income patients. Lastly, if you are planning to pay the balance in cash up front, ask the drug detox facility if they offer discounts to patients paying cash.

‘Shrinking Piano’ Book Teaches Kids It Doesn’t Pay To Get Angry

NASHVILLE, TN – 22 Sep, 2015 – In this world of the alarming rise of disrespect and anger in kids, comes the arrival of the new children’s book, The Amazing Incredible Shrinking Piano as a helpful tool for parents as well as teachers. The Amazing Incredible Shrinking Piano  is part of a series of illustrated books by Nashville, Tennessee author,  Thornton Cline that instills in children important lessons of life. This book teaches how to control anger and teaches the respect of the piano-how to treat the piano kindly.  Published by Centerstream/Hal Leonard Corporation, the book is illustrated by award-winning illustrator, Susan Oliver.

According to a recent Harris poll of 2,250 adults,  respect for teachers dropped from 79% to a meager 31%.

“It is unfortunate that many kids today do not show respect to their teachers and to property. You can see that there are some serious anger issues in kids that teachers and parents must deal with,” says author Thornton Cline.

The Amazing Incredible Shrinking Piano is a wonderful teaching book that combines three books into one:  text with illustrations for kids to read, a songbook of 10 original songs and a narrated audio book with children’s choir performances,” says Thornton Cline.

Cline’s first children’s book, The Amazing Incredible Shrinking Violin  was an Amazon children’s bestseller in February of this year.

Thornton Cline has been honored with Songwriter of the Year twice in a row by the Tennessee Songwriters Association for his hit song, Love is The Reason  recorded by Engelbert Humperdinck and Gloria Gaynor. He has received Dove and Grammy Award nominations for his songs.  His articles have appeared in numerous national magazines, newspapers and journals. The Amazing Incredible Shrinking Piano is Cline’s sixth published book. He is author of  The ContraryBand of AngelsPractice PersonalitiesPractice Personalities for Adults, and The Amazing Incredible Shrinking Violin, on the Hal Leonard Corporation. Cline is an in-demand speaker for national conferences and workshop. He lives in Hendersonville, Tennessee with his wife and two children.

Top 10 HQ Gets Boozy With Two New Editorials On Best Mexican Beers and Strongest Alcoholic Drinks

0
0
Top10HQ.com has published not one but two new editorials on alcohol, recommending the best beers to ever come out of Mexico and the strongest alcoholic drinks in existence.

Alcohol has been drunk since the earliest civilizations, when beer was used as an alternative to dirty water. Since then, it has gotten stronger, more diverse, and has become the beverage of choice for those seeking to party, unwind or simply indulge in a little luxury. Despite being banned in the 30s, alcohol is now more popular than ever. Top 10 HQ aims to help people find the best of everything, and has just published two insightful editorials on alcohol.

The first is a list of the top ten Mexican beers, evaluating them according to their taste, strength, price and brand story. Their best rated bottle is Bohemia, a relatively little known beer promising fruit, vanilla and cocoa beans on the palette. Famous names like Corona and Sol come 8th and 10th respectively.

The second is a more ambitious article, charting the strongest alcohol based drinks ever created. Number 10 is a French vegetable elixir that comes in at a meager 71%. The number one spot is taken by a flavorless, odorless, water-clear Spirytus Stawski from Poland, at a staggering 96%, only ever to be used as a base for dilution, which will numb the palette for days if drunken neat.

A spokesperson for Top 10 HQ explained, “Some of these editorialss are written more for fascination and curiosity while others are written to help people get practical consumer advice. These articles represent both sides of that spectrum. While we would never encourage people to drink any of the incredibly potent drinks that exist in today’s world, we would absolutely encourage people to take a beer-drinking tour of Mexico’s finest breweries. We hope to continue to expand our alcohol category in the coming months with more great articles like these.”

About Top 10 HQ:

Top 10 HQ is an online resource center designed to bring readers the top ten of everything, one category or product at a time. The site is regularly updated by a dedicated team of researchers and writers who contact specialists in their fields to help evaluate the best products on the market today. The site features new content every weekday, and can be parsed using categories and a search bar.
